    Treading on thin ice

I’m going to write about snowshoeing again, not from a “get outside and breath the fresh air” point of view, but from a returning to a favourite place perspective. There’s something to be said about spontaneity We climbed out of bed on Sunday morning and said, “Let’s go to Manning Park and snowshoe around the lake.” It's a game time decision. We don't come up with an excuse not to do it, instead, we throw some snacks into a pack, grab some water and hit the road. Okay, I adde

    Saying yes instead of maybe

Last week’s challenge started out as making sure I said yes, instead of maybe or no. I have a tendency to jump in with a no and then think about it. With that in mind, Saturday morning I agreed to drive my daughter to Tsawwassen, so she could catch a seven o’clock ferry. Okay, I admit, it’s not an exciting trip (it takes 90 minutes each way) but it got me out of bed, showered, dressed, and through the door by five-fifteen a.m., while someone I won't name stayed in bed snoring

Time to make tracks—but why do they have to be uphill?

Nothing says get off the couch better than a mountain Look at Julie Andrews prancing through the alpine meadows in The Sound of Music. She got it—the mountains were calling. With that in mind, I end my Christmas holiday with a snowshoe hike at Mount Washington Ski Resort on Vancouver Island. Okay, I admit it. I was prepared for this adventure, it wasn’t a spontaneous decision. After all, if I’m going to write a blog called 52 Over 50—Writing the Year, I have to find 48 more r
